New Website to Promote Sport & Physical Activity in Donegal
(13th September 11) A great new website has been launched to promote sport and physical activities: Get Ireland Active ( www.getirelandactive.ie) in association with the Health Service Executive and the Local Sports Partnership network is encouraging all sports clubs, gyms, leisure centres, older adult groups, schools, sports camps, trainers and individuals to utilise this site to promote sport and physical activity programmes in County Donegal. A simple log on and tick box system ensures relevance to the site before the GIA moderators post it to the events section and going live on the World Wide Web.
The Get Ireland Active website includes information on how to get active, staying motivated as well as a wide range of fact sheets available to download on areas of interest for the young to not so young including those working with Children, Schools, Youths, Adults, Older People, People with Disabilities and Health Professionals. Sprocket Rocket Training Day
(1st September 11) This training day is open to individuals from Clubs / Schools / Community organisations or any other person who wishes to become a Sprocket Rocket coach.
I would like to encourage clubs to nominate two people from the club who are interested in coaching the SUBWAY® Sprocket Rocket Programme, if you have more or less people that is also fine. Ideally Cycling Ireland would like nominated individuals to have at least a foundation level coaching award, however we recognise that not all individuals already involved in coaching within their club might not have a Cycling Ireland coaching qualification. So in the early stages of the roll-out a coaching qualification is not a requirement, but you will be required to complete the foundation coaching award within 6 months of doing the Sprocket Rocket Tutor Training day.
Please let me know if you or your club would be interested in attending this training day. Also for updates on Sprocket Rocket activities, videos and photos check out our Facebook page and Website.
Date: Sunday 25th September
Venue: Shoreline Leisure Centre, Greystones, Co. Wicklow
Time: 10am – 4pm
