Donegal wheels in motion for National Bike Week 2010
(12th June 10) National Bike Week takes place in Ireland from the 13th – 20th June with multiple events happening at local level throughout the country and organised at local level by local authorities in conjunction with local sports partnerships, cycling clubs and communities. Community Relations through Sport- Equity/Equality Training
(20th May) A group of youth workers, coaches and young leaders completed an equality training course focused on sport. This awareness based training gave the participants a general understanding of the good relations issues that affect sport at a community level. The training focused on increasing participant’s awareness of the diversity of sport in Ireland, how politics has impacted on sport internationally and allow participants to identify the role of sport in contributing to a more inclusive society. The training also provided ideas as to how coaches and participants can deliver a similar message within their own club and sport. Lets Walk, Donegal Website – Now Live
(29th April 10) Our new walking website; Lets Walk, Donegal in now fully active. We hope to make this site a one-stop for all your walking need in Co. Donegal. Our priority at the moment is to promote the Donegal Walking Week (23rd – 30th May) and there after all walking events in Co. Donegal and throughout Ireland, so if you have a walk planned, please give us a call or email us and we will be glad to promote it on: Lets Walk, Donegal
10k Road Race
(20th April 10) A 10k road race is being held in Dunfanaghy on Sunday 6th June at 10am, proceeds on behalf of the Donegal Hospice. This is on the Donegal Grand Prix calendar, but it is not just for the serious runners. We are looking for walkers and runners from all over to talk part. The run loops around the cliff tops of Horn Head, with some of the most stunning views the North West has to offer. It is a challenge too, given you must run from the foot of the cliff to there summit, therefore all participants must run the first 5k going from sea level to 728 feet above sea level.
The race costs €25 and all participants get a t-shirt and goodie bag. To register all can follow this link - Registration

Young People & Physical Activities Online Survey
(20th April 10) Young people and physical activity is a very important aspect of today’s society. With more and more children living sedentary lifestyle’s it’s important to create opportunities for our young people to engage in sport and physical activities in order to tackle this problem.
Donegal Sports Partnership in association with the Donegal Youth Council and with the support of Institute of Technology Tralee will through an online youth sport and physical activity survey gauge the levels of physical activity within the 13 to 16 year olds in Donegal. They also hope to examine the barriers to participation in sport and physical activity and to identify possible programmes which may attract young people to participate. The survey will be available online and will be promoted within the post primary schools in Co Donegal by the Youth Councillors. Please use the link below.

Young Coaches Give Something Back
(20th April 10) Community Relations through Sport proposes to address social exclusion, racism and sectarianism through the medium of sport, physical activity and education. The project is funded by the Donegal CDB Peace and Reconciliation Partnership. The projects overall goal is to address social exclusion issues by engaging young people between the ages of 14 and 17 years of ages from all religious backgrounds through a programme of capacity and confidence building, improving selfesteem thus contributing to a more vibrant and inclusive community. This will be achieved by a mixture of structured sports and educational activities and programmes. (Full text here)
Show Racism The Red Card – Summer Camp
(15th April 10) Show Racism the Red Card with its volunteers from within and outside Ireland are hosting a unique Intercultural Summer Camp in Glencolmcille, Co Donegal for 5-days and 5-nights from 5-10th July. The camp is an Intercultural Learning and Fun experience for boys and girls from 12yrs to 15yrs of age from Ireland North and South for young people Irish and non-Irish. The cost is €175 and includes travel from Dublin and Belfast. The cost of each place has been kept low due to the commitment of our volunteers. Further details and booking from the link below:
Fundamental Sport & Physical Education Workshops
(13th April 10) Donegal Sports Partnership wish to annunce Fundamental Sport & Physical Education Workshops as part of the Teacher In-service training programme 2010. The programme will include modules on Gymnastics, Outdoor Adventure Activities, Buntús refresher and Inclusive Games. There’s also demonstrations on Disability sports games and introductions to Badminton, and Tag Rugby to name but a few. Please see the attached PDF file for further details.
