The Donegal Sports Partnership is an organisation established under The Irish Sports Council (ISC). The ISC was established in 1999 under the Irish Sports Council Act by the Government. The mission of the ISC is to plan, lead and coordinate the sustainable development of sport in Ireland. The aims of the ISC are to increase participation through the removal of barriers, and to make better use of facilities.

Donegal Sports Ability Day

(26th September 08) Donegal Sports Partnership will host a Sports Ability Day for people with disabilities on Saturday 4th of October in the Aura Letterkenny Leisure Centre.  People of all abilities are welcome to come along and try a variety of activities. Sports on offer will include; Football, GAA, Badminton, Boccia, New Age Kurling, Cycling, Bocce, Athletics, Basketball and Archery. It is hoped that by trying new activities people may find a sport they wish to pursue. 

A number of the National Governing Bodies of Sport including the FAI, Basketball Ireland, GAA, Cycling Ireland, Athletics Ireland and Badminton Ireland will be present on the day. In addition to this disability and other organisations will have promotional stands at the event. Go for Life Grant Funding Application

(11th September 08) Grants For Sport & Physical Activity For Older People
Go for Life - the National Programme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People –is pleased to announce that €350,000 has been allocated under the eighth National Grant Scheme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People. The Scheme promotes opportunities for older people to participate in sport and physical activity. Since 2001, over 3,500 grants totalling in excess of €2 million have been distributed to clubs and organisations to enable their older members to become more involved in sport and physical activity. Disability Sport - Donegal Sports Ability Day

(8th September 08) Donegal Sports Partnership will be holding a Sports Ability Day on Saturday 4th October at the Aura Centre Letterkenny. Disability Awareness Training

(8th September 08)  Donegal Sports Partnership is holding its first Disability Awareness Training Workshop on Wednesday 24th of September. The workshop is aimed at Coaches, Clubs, Sports Development Officers, Disability Organisations, Volunteers, Sport Leaders, and those involved in or with an interest in the Provision of Sport & Physical Activity for People with Disabilities. To book a place on the course, please return the booking form and payment to Donegal Sports Partnership. Places are limited and booking is on a first come first served basis. Motivating Healthy Habits with Young People

(26th August 08) This one day course aims to assist participants to raise the issue of tobacco smoking with clients using the brief opportunistic intervention approach and increase their knowledge of tobacco smoking related issues.  It is targeted at anyone who has a role in the provision of services for young people. National Coaching and Training Centre - Coaching Forum

(25th August 08) The National Coaching and Training Centre are holding the 9th Coaching Forum in Dublin City University, entitled ‘Developing Decision Makers in Sport’ on 13 - 14 September 2008. 

The forum has an exciting line up of national and international presenters including Packie Bonner, Technical Director of the FAI; Dr Giles Warrington, Head Sports Physiologist to the Olympic Council of Ireland; Stephen Aboud, Coach Development Manager IRFU; Dr Lynn Kidman, lecturer in Coaching Studies; Gerry Hussey,  Psychologist  to the Irish Boxing Squad; Foppe de Haan, former coach of the Netherlands Under 21 Football Team; and  Antoni Girod, Professor of Applied Psychology currently working with elite athletes.

The forum will also include the launch of ‘Coaching Ireland’ and the launch of the Coaching Strategy for Ireland. Further information and brochure and application form details/download  are available on the NCTC website.

 

 

Cricket, Come and Try Days

(1st. August 08) Donegal Sports Partnership in association with Cricket Ireland is holding a three day cricket Academy at Strabane Cricket Ground in Strabane on the 18th August. The three day event will see children from both sides of the border come together for cricket coaching that aims to improve every aspect of your game.
